Vehicle data sources and calculation methodology
A useful estimate must show where its inputs came from and what its result leaves out.
Sources and scope
- USA: EPA Fuel Economy. 2025 and 2026 EPA entries. EPA combined fuel economy is expressed in US miles per gallon. Match the model year, engine, transmission and drive layout; identical-looking model names can have different ratings.
- Canada: Natural Resources Canada. 2026 NRCan entries. NRCan consumption is in litres per 100 kilometres: a smaller number means less fuel used. Select the correct body style and hybrid or gasoline version before comparing costs.
- UK: Vehicle Certification Agency. VCA snapshot; mixed model labels and source dates. UK entries use WLTP combined figures. Petrol and diesel economy is shown in Imperial mpg; electric consumption uses kWh/100 km. Model labels and source change dates do not necessarily identify the registration year.
- Pakistan: PakWheels market references. 167 market-reference entries; source checks recorded in September 2026. Pakistan figures in this catalogue are editable market-reference assumptions, not certified laboratory ratings or measurements taken by MyDriveCost. Similar figures across trims are not evidence of identical real-world economy.
The guides use the stored site datasets. A guide preparation date is not a claim that every source row was freshly reverified that day. EPA rows retain their stored verification date and identifier; UK rows retain source change dates; Pakistan rows retain their source-check date. Canada identifies the 2026 dataset. Official publishers can revise ratings after an import.
Transparent formulas
- US mpg: miles ÷ mpg × USD per US gallon.
- UK Imperial mpg: miles ÷ mpg × 4.54609 × GBP per litre.
- L/100 km: kilometres × consumption ÷ 100 × price per litre.
- km/L: kilometres ÷ efficiency × price per litre.
- Electricity: kilometres × kWh/100 km ÷ 100 × tariff per kWh. Establish whether the source already includes charging losses before adding a loss factor.
Our example prices are deliberately labelled illustrations. They are not live quotes. Fuel-only estimates omit depreciation, finance, insurance, servicing, tyres, parking and tolls unless a separate tool asks you to enter them.
How we curate the guides
The first release covers four selected model families. Country pages inventory the source makes, make pages compare the source model groups, and model pages add variant context, reproducible cost arithmetic and an editable estimator. We do not create a separate page merely because a trim or model-year row exists.
Different testing standards are not interchangeable. We retain source units and labels rather than presenting cross-country ratings as a controlled comparison. Plug-in hybrid weighted consumption cannot by itself establish the fuel and electricity cost of a particular journey.
Corrections and maintenance
If a variant, unit or result looks wrong, use the correction contact on our About page. Include the public guide URL, source record or trim, the unit and a non-sensitive example calculation. Do not send private travel records or registration details. Source corrections should be applied to the stored dataset and the affected guides regenerated together so the table and worked example stay consistent.
