USA vehicle economy and fuel costs

For a US road trip, divide miles by US mpg and multiply by dollars per US gallon. A UK mpg figure uses a larger gallon and must not be substituted. A regular-gasoline example should not be used as the price for a vehicle requiring premium.

Source and coverage

1,699 source entries across 41 makes. 2025 and 2026 EPA entries.

EPA combined fuel economy is expressed in US miles per gallon. Match the model year, engine, transmission and drive layout; identical-looking model names can have different ratings.

Understanding US fuel-economy ratings

EPA combined mpg is measured in US miles per gallon and is a comparison standard rather than a guarantee. Match model year, engine, drivetrain and transmission. Never substitute a UK Imperial mpg value: the gallons are different sizes.

Example, not a live price: 100 miles at 30 US mpg uses 3.33 US gallons. At $3.50 per gallon the estimated fuel cost is $11.67. Driving 500 miles a month with the same assumptions costs about $58.33 before parking and tolls.

Check the fuel grade your vehicle requires, then replace laboratory economy with your own recorded consumption. Explore Corolla-specific variants and calculations.
